Please join us in Des Moines on October 4 for the Iowa Council for the Social Studies 2021 Conference, Iowa Social Studies: A Whole New World.
We are excited to announce AEP’s Education Coordinator, Sue Protheroe, will be presenting the AEP middle school curriculum From Jerusalem to Elkader at the conference during Breakout Session 2, 10:20 – 11:10 am. This curriculum is an exploration of three Abrahamic faiths coming together (and colliding), an examination of Islam in particular, and a spotlight on the Algerian hero, Abd el-Kader.
There are meaningful sessions for teachers in every level and discipline. This year’s conference responds not only to the standards that went into full effect last year, but also to recent legislative developments impacting social studies instruction in Iowa. You’ll also gain insight around a wealth of topics and teaching strategies including:
History | Global Issues |
Supreme Court | Suffrage |
Abrahamic Faiths | Ancient Civilizations |
Economics | Citizenship & Sustainability |
Choice Boards | Iowa History |
Geography | Social Studies Reading Strategies |
Standards Referenced Learning | Games, Simulations & Other High Leverage Strategies |
The conference will be held at the West Des Moines Marriott from 7:30 am – 3:15 pm. For more information and to register, visit the Iowa Council for the Social Studies website.
