Middle School & High School Curriculum
This three-part unit explores the intersection of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in Jerusalem, a shared city, marked by both conflict and coexistence. Students examine Jerusalem’s religious, historical, and cultural significance to better understand what is referred to as “Abrahamic” traditions.
The focus of this curricula then turns to Emir Abd el-Kader, a 19th-century Muslim leader, and delves into his life as a role model of courage, compassion, and discernment, revealing a surprising contemporary connection to Iowa, U.S.A.

Students examine the city’s religious, historical, and cultural significance to better understand Abrahamic traditions. The focus then shifts to Islam—its origins, beliefs, and global influence—highlighting the role of Jerusalem and introducing Emir Abd el-Kader, a 19th-century Muslim leader. The final unit delves into Abd el-Kader’s life as a model of unity and compassion, revealing his surprising connection to Iowa and relevance today.
